Parliament Urges Widespread Reforms to Save B.C. Wild Salmon, Underscoring Industry Report
After a 15-month investigation, the Canadian House of Commons committee on fisheries and oceans (FOPO) released a report this week aimed at saving wild salmon and including recommendations with wide ramifications for Canada’s Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO), Indigenous stakeholders, and the beleaguered salmon industry in British Columbia.
The report, “PACIFIC SALMON: ENSURING THE LONG-TERM HEALTH OF WILD POPULATIONS AND ASSOCIATED FISHERIES” lists 32 recommendations, chief among them including Indigenous bands in all discussion and decision-making throughout the process.
